Birthday boy

I don't really have much to say today other than I'm really, really tired. To be honest, I think that if I put my head on my desk right now, I'd actually fall asleep. Not good. It appears that I can't function quite as well as I used to when I don't get much sleep ... looks like 5 hours doesn't quite cut it anymore!

It probably doesn't help that it's rainy and dark outside. This weather makes me want to just curl up under a blanket and do nothing. Too bad I'm at work, or I'd do just that.

On a different, more upbeat note - today is Dan's birthday! Today he turns 7!! (inside joke, sorry ... he's actually 34 today). I'm treating him to a movie tonight - his pick, of course. My guess is that we'll be seeing The Corpse Bride. :) It looks like a good movie. I already gave him part of his b-day present last week (tickets to see Echo & The Bunnymen) - tonight I'll give him the other half of the gift. I'd say that I hope he likes it .... but I know he will!

Happy happy birthday, Dan! :)

Bambino/bambina?

I've been busy with work. Again. I know, it's often the same lame excuse for my not updating - been busy, blah, blah, blah ...

But I have been! I've been working on the invite/design job - I've had a pretty tight turnaround time to deal with, so it's definitely been keeping me busy. But the job is nearing completion - Thursday is the absolute deadline, but I'm hoping to get it done ahead of schedule.

Seeing as I've been MIA for awhile, let me fill you in on what else is going on.

First and foremost - I'm going to be an auntie again!!!! Yay!!! Jay and Jamie are expecting a wee bebe! We just got the news on Saturday - and everyone is thrilled, of course (Jay in particular). So it appears that we'll have a May baby on our hands! :)

Other than that news, not much is going on. But that's big enough news anyways - so it makes up for the lack of news in other areas of life!!

Oooh

Today it appears that I'm physically falling apart ... ugh.

It all started this morning when I wore a pair of new shoes ... I got them yesterday and wore them all day at home. They seemed just fine - but I guess I was wrong. Even though they felt great yesterday, by the time I walked from my house to the bus stop this morning I was missing a layer of skin on my left heel. Ouch. I thought they'd be fine, as they're Merrell shoes - normally Merrells are comfy right away and don't have to be broken in. Guess I was wrong this time.

So anyways, I managed to walk from the bus to work, put on a band aid (at least that could act as a bit of a barrier) and thought all was well.

And everything was well until about noon, when my left eye started to get very irritated. It feels like there is something on my contact, but I don't see anything on it. I don't have a lens case or contact solution with me, so I can't take it out and clean it. It's been getting more and more irritated ...

Then around 1:30pm or so, my tummy started to get upset. I have no idea what's going on with it - but it's quite sore. And I have no idea what to do about it! Whatever it is, it seems to be getting worse. It feels like I have a little monster in there who's carving up my stomach with a miniature knife or something. Ugh. I think I'll have to go and lie down for awhile. I would hop on the bus and go home early but I think I'm better off waiting for Dan to come and pick me up.

So that's my day. I'd have to say that it's been pretty lame so far. My body is not happy today - not at all. :(

PS: These are the shoes, in case you're interested. :) (mine are all black though)

When it rains, it pours

Ah, yes, I disappeared for awhile. I've been busy! Starting a business takes quite a lot of work ... especially when you're already taking on design jobs while in the process of starting it all up .... somehow design jobs are landing in my lap, without my trying to land them! That's a good thing, of course - but to be honest, I didn't think I'd be taking clients/jobs on until January or so. I was going to get everything fully functional first (business/legal stuff, a logo, business cards, a website, etc) before getting down to work with design jobs - but it appears that things aren't going to work out that way.

Well, everything happens for a reason. I might as well just dive on in and get to work. :)

The funny thing is that my first client isn't anything like I thought it would be ... I'm planning on focusing primarily on invitation design for weddings ... but somehow I've landed a huge corporate job. I think it's kind of funny. And I may already have a potential wedding-invite job lined up as well.

It's not quite as exciting as a wedding-invite-job would be - but, I can't complain - corporate jobs do pay well. Especially when it's a rush job (they want 400 handcrafted invites in less than 3 weeks - eep! - and then an additional 600 later)

Luckily, I love a good deadline. I work well under pressure. :)
