Retail therapy

So ... after all the mouth stuff I've been dealing with, I figured that I deserved a couple of treats. It's only fair, right?? :)

I bought myself a cool pair of Diesel shoes:

And a pair of wood & silver earrings. Yep, it's a bit hard to tell in this pic, but they're a dark wood, with a silver strip down the front. I think they're pretty cool. They're made by a small local artisan who runs Broxup Jewellry.

I survived ...

Well, the big day was last Thursday. I went in to the oral surgeon and had a little sleep while he yanked the cracked molar out of my mouth. Overall, things went pretty well. The only negative thing about the procedure was when they put the IV needle into my left hand and started to inject the junk into my vein ... and it started leaking! HOLY SHITE, did that ever hurt!! Good gawd, did it ever ... So they got it out pretty quickly and moved to my right hand instead.

The specialist was great, as was the nurse and everyone else - that made it a lot better for me. I thought that I was doing really well - I was actually proud of myself for keeping so calm ... but I guess I wasn't all that calm after all, as my blood pressure was super high and my heart rate was between 107-109 the whole time (average is around 76, I believe) ... ha! Okay, so I guess I was a nervous wreck after all ...

For some reason the hand they used for the IV totally swelled up, beyond normal. It was pretty gross! The swelling went down within about 24 hours though, and now the entire top of my hand is left with a big, nasty bruise (it's huge!). I don't think this pic does the size of the swelling total justice, but check it out:

I got a Dora the Explorer band-aid!

Woke up and Dan took me home. That day went fine, as I still had drugs in me to dull the pain. The next day went pretty well too, minus one near-blacking-out episode in the morning. And after Friday, things went down hill. I felt absolutely shitty all weekend - and still feel kinda lame (but definitely better than yesterday). I didn't go to work today, so I'm sure that helped - I've been sleeping sooo much. I guess my body is tired - after all, all this healing business is hard work!

I have a few pics, but I'll just share a tame one, so as to not gross you out ... at least you can see a little splash of red in there.

PS: A big, big thank you to those of you who checked in to see how I was doing/feeling ... it really meant a lot to me.

Turbonegro

Well, I thought I should post something, seeing as I haven't updated for awhile. To be honest, not really happens these days - work, work and more work. Well, of course I've had my dental "issue" lately though - but not much else has been going on.

The update on the tooth issue is that I'm scheduled to go in and have it extracted this week. Eeep! I'm going to sleep for the procedure though, so that puts me at ease a little bit (not much, mind you). So ... wish me luck! (gulp ...)

Our trip is rapidly approaching - I actually can't even believe how fast this month is zipping by. We leave in just over 3 weeks (we fly to the Netherlands on May 11, arriving there on May 12). The trip is going to be here before we know it!!! I have so much to do before then.

I just found out that
one of my favourite bands is playing in Amsterdam 2 days after we leave. Seriously, what are the chances of that?! And then they play in Munich .... exactly 1 week before we get there. Why oh why?! I actually checked into changing our itinerary so we could see them in either Holland, Belgium or Germany - but nope, no luck. We'd have to change flights and whatnot, and that would just end up being too costly. But it truly, truly sucks that we won't get to see them. :(

Well, on the upside, we got our tickets for the Bloodhound Gang concert in Munich on May 21 - yahoo! :D

My worst nightmare come true

I went in for an emergency trip to the dentist yesterday ... I've been experiencing some tooth pain ... I was actually scheduled to go in next week to have a crown put on a tooth that I had a root canal done on years ago. However, last weekend that area of my mouth started hurting quite badly whenever I would eat ... and it just kept getting worse. So all weekend I was munching on Ibuprofen every 5 hours to dull the ache ...

Got in to see the dentist yesterday - and the verdict = the worst possible scenario possible. My far back upper molar on one side has cracked in half. It's not fixable (I guess that appointment to have a crown put on it is cancelled ...). I have to go to a dental surgeon (likely next week), get knocked out and have it extracted. After that, I can either learn to live with the gap in my mouth, or, for a mere $4000 I can get a plug inserted into my jaw bone and topped with a crown. I'm just really freaked out - what if they take it out and I don't have a plug put in - are my perfectly aligned teeth going to move and get f**ked up?! Oh my.

Yep, it's actually cracked in half - and every time I bite down the crack opens and my whole tooth moves. No wonder it hurts!! How gross.

This is honestly my worst nightmare come true.

The one thing in this world that causes me major, major anxiety is the dentist (or anything dental related). I can't even go to the dentist for a cleaning without having a feeling of panic set in ... quite often I forget to breathe while in the chair ... that's how freaked out I get.

So I'm really upset ... not happy at all. I've been completely nauseous every since I found out (literally).
