The Vegas trip.

Well, we survived our Vegas getaway. Here's a quick rundown ...

We were slotted to fly there the evening of September 12 - got to the airport nice and early, waited ... then just as we were to depart, we were informed that our flight would be delayed 4.5 hours. So we waited some more ... and just as our delayed flight time came around, we were told that we had a plane to get on, but there was no crew to fly it! Apparently when our original flight time was delayed, the crew was told to go to a local hotel to freshen up - and then when it came time to get back to the airport for our delayed flight time, customs had closed and the crew couldn't get through! Anyways, I'll spare you a bunch of the lame details - but in the end, the flight was cancelled and rescheduled for the following morning at 10am. We were sent home around 2am, and had to be back at the airport for 7am - grrr! When we got back to the airport, everyone on our flight were "flagged" by US customs because it seemed suspicious that we had gone through customs 2x in 2 days .... so mom, Dan and I all got thoroughly searched (along with everyone else on our flight) - fun! The great part was that I got searched by a trainee, so it was even more exciting (my favourite quote during the search was from the trainer to the trainee - "no cupping!" - ha ha!)

Anyways, after getting through customs and getting on the plane - the flight went well (and was on time) - the only negative thing was the hardcore turbulence over Nevada ... pretty freaky. I've flown many, many times and I think this was the worst turbulence I've ever experienced!

Vegas was HOT. 38-39 degrees every day that we were there! But it's a different heat than we're used to, as it's super dry. So it's hot but you don't feel totally gross like you do in a humid heat. You don't even sweat in that desert heat! The only thing I found about the heat was that it would totally zap my energy. Dan & I had issues with our eyes - they didn't seem to like being baked by the heat, so we both walked around with bloodshot eyes for the most part. My mom fared well though, so that was good.

Now onto my mom - she had SUCH a great time. And seeing as the whole trip was really for her, it made me happy that she had such an awesome time. She'd never been on a real trip before, and it was her first time in a real airport and flying - so it was a big deal for her. The whole time we were in Vegas, she walked around like a kid in a candy store - it was cute. :)

Dan & I took a night off (left my mom at the hotel casino) and went out for dinner and to The Donnas concert. Get this - there is a Hofbrauhaus in Las Vegas!!! What the f*#k?! Yep, there is one there (apparently one of the owners of the real one in Munich moved to Vegas and decided to open one there) - and Dan and I were THRILLED about it! It's just like the original one, but smaller (25% the size of the one in Munich) - and they import authentic Hofbrauhaus beer. Mmmm! Needless to say, we hung out there for quite awhile - had dinner, drank lots of that awesome beer - and then moved across the street to the Hard Rock Hotel for The Donnas concert (it was poolside, how cool is that?!)

All in all, aside from the flight being cancelled/rescheduled, it was a good little getaway. Dan & I did have to get used to moving at a slower pace cuz' of my mom, but overall, I think we all had an alright time. My mom sure did, that's for sure. :)
