... and coming home totally sick makes it really lame! Dan picked up a cold bug in Munich during the last week of September -- I managed to fight it off for a bit, but it eventually got me while we were in Venice. October 2nd, to be exact, is when my throat started to hurt. It progressively got worse, and I was completely sick for the rest of our trip. I did my best to carry on as usual though (with the help of some Italian cold meds)
At the end of our trip we had to fly from Pisa to London to catch our flight home. Oh my, that flight was BRUTAL. I've never flown while at the peak of a cold before - and all I can say is, "ouch." Both Dan and I were in pain for that flight, as our ears wouldn't pop! The pressure just kept building and building ... ugh. Anyways, as if that wasn't bad enough, we were on the flight home only 8 hours after that flight, so got to do it all over again (although the 2nd flight wasn't as painful, thankfully).
Anyhoo, we got home and were both still sick. Both of our colds slowly cleared up, but unfortunately that wouldn't be the end of it for me. At the 2-week mark most of my cold symptoms were gone, but not the sinus pressure/pain. Oh, and not to mention the complete lack of energy. I finally gave in and went to the doctor this past Monday (Oct 17) and it was confirmed what I had suspected - a lovely sinus infection has crept its way in. Ugh.
Apparently flying when sick can lead to an outcome such as this. I guess two flights in one day can really increase the chances! So now, for the next week I have a lovely steroid-nasal spray to take as well as antibiotics. Let's just hope they do the job, and quickly. After being sick for 18 days, I've seriously had enough. :(
