A small break in the clouds

I was hoping to have some posts about our fantastic Eurotrip 2011 by now, but unfortunately the past few weeks have been a total write-off for me. I told you about the terrible German cold bug that turned into a sinus infection ...

I seem to be on the mend now, but oh me-oh-my, I am so tired! I'm definitely in need of some down time so I can recover and get my energy levels back up.

I haven't been sleeping well so getting out of the bed every morning for work has been a challenge. To top it off, I'll be taking on a 14-month job assignment at work (maternity leave coverage for a co-worker) that requires a fair amount of training -- so I've been doing that all week. Add in the lack of energy and daily headaches and tension in my neck/skull and nope, it's not been a fun week.

This morning things seemed extra blah for me. But I headed to work ... I had just started my walk to work when I came across an elderly lady who was picking up a poor dead kitty from the sidewalk (he'd been hit by a car). That added to the day. I felt even more horrible after witnessing that unfortunate sight. But I carried on -- feeling extra down and gloomy.

But then, as I was nearing Granville Island a complete stranger struck up a conversation with me as we were walking alongside each other. She was very nice and made some small talk about the weather, appropriate clothing for such Vancouver weather, etc. And then as she was about to head off in a different direction she told me that I was, "beautiful. Stunningly beautiful."

A random conversation with a stranger topped off with a random compliment ... it didn't make my day great, but it did make it a little bit better. I'm thankful for that.
